چکیده

Introduction. Type B Ca-Al-rich inclusions have textures that have been interpreted as indicative of reheating to temperatures of about 1400°C, sufficient to produce a high degree of partial melting, and subsequent cooling at rates of the order of degrees per hour [1]. They are often found to be enriched in the heavy isotopes of the moderately volatile elements silicon and magnesium, which also suggests a high temperature episode resulting in the partial evaporation of the more volatile components. This enrichment is typically interpreted as following the Rayleigh fractionation equation R/Ro=ƒ

Silicon isotopic fractionation of CAI-like vacuum evaporation residues

Calcium-, aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) are often enriched in the heavy isotopes of magnesium and silicon relative to bulk solar system materials. It is likely that these isotopic enrichments resulted from evaporative mass loss of magnesium and silicon from early solar system condensates while they were molten during one or more high-temperature reheating events. Quantitative interpretation o...

Si and Mg Isotope Fractionations in Melilite in Type B Cais

Introduction: Si and Mg isotopic compositions are indicators of evaporation processes experienced by CAIs [1]. Bulk Si and Mg isotopic compositions (up to ~5 permil/amu for Si and ~11 permil/amu for Mg) have been reported by [2]. Isotopic heterogeneity within CAIs is of interest because it may reveal how evaporation processes occurred. It may also reveal if secondary processes such as recondens...

Elemental and Isotope Fractionation of Chondrule-like Liquids

Introduction. Laboratory data on the evaporation kinetics and isotope fractionation of evaporation residues of silicate liquids exposed to vacuum or lowpressure gas of solar or dust-enriched compositions provide constraints on processes that affected the evolution of primitive inclusions in meteorites. In earlier work we focused on evaporations of Type B CAI-like liquids [1,4]. Here we will ree...

Precision Fusion Measurements with a High Efficiency Superconducting Solenoidal Separator

High precision measurements of fusion are an essential step in investigating the effects of coherent and dissipative processes on quantum tunneling of complex nuclei [1,2]. Fusion reactions are initiated in the laboratory by energetic ion beams impinging on a target. The beam and target nuclei fuse to form a “hot” compound nucleus which de-excites by particle emission, forming evaporation resid...
